Shawn Hales

Shawn Hales, Psy.D.

Dr. Hales is a licensed psychologist in Maryland. He has spent years serving the population of Maryland through his practice, and other jobs in state government, the public school system, and local colleges.

While his expertise in psychotherapy and psychological testing has always been fulfilling, he began to notice more and more of his patients talking about the use of cannabis in more positive ways. With a skeptical eye, Dr. Hales began to look at research articles and read books by scientists who were reporting on the pros and cons of cannabis use.

Dr. Hales also observed some of the improvements his patients’ were experiencing as they showed up in his consultation office.

He said, “I remember how different one particular patient was when he inadvertently came to a therapy session after consuming an edible. Before he was grim, and had slow speech, always worried about how he was appearing to me. But during that particular session he smiled so much more, was able to express himself better, and could also accept more of my guidance than he usually did.”

The more he understand the developing science of cannabis, Dr. Hales was more willing to offer some direction to patients who could find it of benefit.

He is also taking a course at Oaksterdam University, a well-known training program in California. The program emphasizes the clinical benefits and specific uses of various cannabis components, and types of conditions that it can potentially improve.

Dr. Hales cannot perform the medical card evaluations himself because only certain medical professionals are allowed to do this.

However, Dr. Hales’ professional interest led to the creation of the services of Firefly Medical to assist more people in considering this powerful and natural intervention. His aim is for this company to be a place of support for education and improvement, as well as evaluation for medical marijuana cards.
